Overview of the Ministry and its Functions
The Ministry of Economy and Planning is responsible for the formulation, coordination, and monitoring of economic and development policies, supporting national development priorities while promoting sustainability and economic and social balance. The Ministry works to develop development visions, strategies, and plans in coordination with various stakeholders. It also monitors economic indicators and development programs, thereby contributing to the enhancement of public policy effectiveness, the promotion of investment and regional development, and the improvement of service quality.
The Ministry of Economy and Planning is responsible for overseeing the development of the State’s economic orientations and policies, as well as monitoring their implementation, in order to ensure comprehensive, balanced, and sustainable development.
Main Missions
- Establish economic forecasts and ensure the monitoring and evaluation of economic trends.
- Develop development strategies and policies within the framework of economic plans and balances, in coordination with relevant ministries and institutions.
- Define sectoral policies and infrastructure and human resource development programs in coordination with the competent bodies.
- Monitor development projects, contribute to the preparation of the State budget, and evaluate implemented programs.
- Develop regional and sectoral development policies and strategies in collaboration with all stakeholders, including ministries, regional councils, and relevant regional structures.
- Implement and follow up on government guidelines related to sectoral and regional development.
- Design, develop, and monitor regional development programs aimed at strengthening development factors across all regions of the country.
- Manage regional development programs as well as the Integrated Development Program, including regional public works programs.
- Conduct necessary economic and sectoral studies to promote sectoral and regional development and support public and private investment.
- Develop and promote statistical information.
- Prepare economic and social studies.
- Prepare international cooperation files in the economic, financial, and technical fields.
- Prepare negotiations in the fields of international cooperation and foreign investment, in coordination with the relevant ministries.
- Participate in bilateral negotiations within the areas falling under the Ministry’s responsibilities.
- Oversee multilateral negotiations on international cooperation and foreign investment, as well as the conclusion of related agreements and treaties.
- Monitor the implementation of agreements and treaties related to international cooperation and both foreign and domestic investment.
- Promote partnership and foreign investment opportunities by supporting and facilitating investment projects in Tunisia, while also facilitating access for Tunisian talent to international employment opportunities.
- Represent Tunisia in periodic meetings of international and regional financial organizations, as well as in international and regional economic, financial, and technical conferences, in coordination with other relevant ministries.
